FEATURES AND MAIN AIMS.


The training is focused on the European democratic systems and the active democratic movements. The main topics will be:

  1. Democracy concept and democratic model. What do we mean when we talk about democracy? 
  2. State of democracy in European countries, especially in the diffucult times of economical crisis. Democratic crisis and lack of autonomy in the representative organisms. Possible threats to democracy (e.g. hate speech, lack of tolerance, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, rise of fasict and far-right approaches, globalization, etc.).
  3. Democratic challenge: from representative democracy to participative democracy.
  4. Democratic activism: control models and democratic participation. Alternatives to the current model.
  5. How we, as peace and human rights activists, can educate the local communities we work and live in, in order to build a democratic, open, tolerant and respectful society. 



Participants will gain an overall and specific vision about the situation of democracy in European Union and in the nations that make it up.
For this purpose, participants of different countries provide an introduction to the democratic situation in their homeland through presentations, activities, workshops ... Therein, it  will consider the main issues affecting today democracies (lost of autonomy and representation, globalization, lost of social rights,  hate speech, lack of tolerance, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, rise of fasict and far-right approaches...) and possible initiatives to improve the quality of democracy (citizen activism, social movements, democratic control, direct democracy models...).
Organizers adduce necessary tools for the development of activities, lectures and workshops. In addition, the organizers will invite diferents citizens and social platforms which  working to improve the health of democracy. The platforms will share their principles, methods and objectives. We aim to provide participants with new knowledge and skills for developing and projecting actions seeking to improve and increase participation and democratic activism.
